Zakir Hussain wins Grammy award

 
Indian tabla maestro Zakir Hussain has won a Grammy award as part of the winning team that created the "Global Drum" project. Hussain worked with Mickey Hart of the rock band 'Grateful Dead', Nigerian percussionist Sikiru Adepoju and Puerto Rican jazz percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo for the album.
                          "Global Drum Project" is the second collaboration between Hart and Hussain after their compilation "Planet Drum" which was released in 1991 and went on to win the first-ever Grammy Award in the World Music category.The Global Drum tour brought Hart, Hussain, Adepoju and Hidalgo together in a reunion sparked by the 15th anniversary of the ground-breaking album "Planet Drum". Released in 1991 on the Rykodisc label it went on to earn the first-ever Grammy Award in the World Music category.The tour also marked the resumption of an artistic relationship between Hart and Hussain that goes back to the late 1960s.
