History of Hockey World Cup

In 1970 the International Hockey Association decided to organize the first world cup in 1971 and the venue being Pakistan, but due to some controversial issues between India and Pakistan, the venue had been changed to Spain. International Hockey Association till 1975 organized the world cup for every 2 years. In 1975 the world cup was organized in Malaysia and for the first time the Indian team have won the world cup. Later on they decided to organize for every 3 years and organized the 4th world cup in 1978, in Argentina. After that the International Hockey Association decided to organize for every 4 years and organized the world cup in 1982 and the venue being India, this for the first time that India has organized a world cup. After 1982 again in 2010 India got a chance to organize the world cup and this is really a happy movement for the Indians.

Indian position in Hockey world cup since 1971:

In 1971 Hockey world cup was held in Spain, the winner being Pakistan, India ended up with 3rd position.

In 1973 Hockey world cup was held in Netherlands, the winner being Netherlands, India ended up with 2nd position.

In 1975 Hockey world cup was held in Malaysia, the winner being India, this is the first time that India had won a world cup.

In 1978 Hockey world cup was held in Argentina, the winner being Pakistan, India ended up with 6th position.

In 1982 Hockey world cup was held in India, the winner being Pakistan, India ended up with 5th position.

In 1986 Hockey world cup was held in England, the winner being Australia, India ended up with 12th position.

In 1990 Hockey world cup was held in Pakistan, the winner being Netherlands, India ended up with 10th position.

In 1994 Hockey world cup was held in Australia, the winner being Pakistan, India ended up with 5th position.

In 1998 Hockey world cup was held in Netherlands, the winner being Netherlands, India ended up with 9th position. This is the 1st time in Hockey history that
the home team has won the world cup.

In 2002 Hockey world cup was held in Malaysia, the winner being Germany, India ended up with 10th position.

In 2006 Hockey world cup was held in Germany, the winner being Germany, India ended up with 11th position. This is the 2nd time in Hockey history that the home team has won the world cup after Netherlands in 1998.

Now in 2010 India is organizing the World cup and we wish the our team creates a history after Netherlands and Germany to win the world cup in home town.
